The Partnerships Behind the Products

Published October 29, 2026

When customers see a product on the shelf at an NLC Liquor Store, they may not see the many people, partnerships and decisions that helped bring it there. Since 1954, our manufacturing team has worked with partners to move products from concept to customer, building more than 70 years of experience along the way.

From our facility on Kenmount Road in St. John’s, 45 employees support product development, blending, bottling and canning, private-label production, warehousing and logistics. Their work supports NLC-owned brands including Screech, Old Sam, Shiver Vodka, Cabot Tower and George Street Spiced Rum, as well as co-packing partner brands such as Iceberg, Crystal Head, Signal Hill, Golden Wedding, Lamb’s Sociables, and Newfoundland Distillery Company products.

Today, more than 80 per cent of what we produce is shipped outside Newfoundland and Labrador and sold in over 30 countries. That reach reflects more than manufacturing capacity. It reflects the trust, coordination and shared commitment to quality that underpin every successful partnership.

Working Together from Start to Finish

Our manufacturing capabilities extend well beyond packaging. We work closely with partners on recipe development, production requirements, packaging specifications, quality standards, and timelines. By bringing these capabilities together, we help turn ideas into market-ready products.

This work depends on open communication, practical problem-solving and flexibility. Whether we are developing a new recipe, launching a product or continuing to produce a familiar favourite, success comes from partners and employees working toward a common goal.

This collaborative approach is important to NLC’s broader role in using our experience and infrastructure to create value, support responsible growth, and expand opportunities within Newfoundland and Labrador.

Supporting Newfoundland and Labrador Partners

I am especially proud of the relationships we have built with businesses across Newfoundland and Labrador, including local distilleries, breweries, and wineries. By helping partners develop, produce and package new products, we can support local ideas and help bring them to market.

These partnerships support economic activity, strengthen local capability and connect us with people who share our commitment to the communities we serve.

Together, our partners and employees demonstrate the talent, creativity and production capability that exist here at home - capabilities that are also helping Newfoundland and Labrador products earn recognition and reach customers well beyond our province.

That momentum is reflected in Screech Rum’s recent gold medal at the London Spirits Competition. The recognition celebrates a product with deep roots in Newfoundland and Labrador and the care, skill, and collaboration of the people behind it.

Built on Experience, Sustained by Trust

Strong partnerships are built over time. For more than seven decades, our manufacturing team has worked alongside partners through new product launches, changing customer preferences and the practical challenges of bringing products to market.

Trust is sustained through consistent delivery, open communication and a shared commitment to quality, especially as markets, customer expectations and business needs evolve. We value the ideas and knowledge our partners bring, just as they value the experience and capabilities we contribute. The strongest results come when we share expertise, solve challenges, and celebrate achievements together.

Our more than 30-year relationship with Iceberg and our new five-year agreement with Signal Hill are two examples of partnerships grounded in trust, quality and consistent care. Together, they reflect confidence in what we can accomplish in the years ahead.

Looking Ahead Together

Behind every finished product is a shared effort, from early conversations and recipe development, to production, packaging and distribution. Each stage depends on people bringing their expertise to the table while remaining focused on a common purpose.

I am grateful for the dedication of our employees and the confidence of our partners. Together, we are creating opportunities for local businesses, delivering quality products, and strengthening Newfoundland and Labrador’s presence in markets around the world.

As customer preferences and markets continue to evolve, we will remain focused on delivering thoughtful innovation and opportunities that create lasting value.

To our co-packing partners, thank you for your collaboration and for the important role you play in this work. The partnerships we build today help create the products, opportunities, and economic benefits of tomorrow. We look forward to continuing that work together.
