Cheryl Whitten

Chief Financial and Information Officer and Corporate Secretary

Cheryl Whitten joined NLC in August 2022 having an extensive career with more than 25 years in financial management and business analysis with a focus on governance, risk and controls. She has experience in a variety of sectors including Higher Education, Public Sector, Indigenous, and For-Profit Entities having served most recently as Associate Director, Financial and Administrative Services at Memorial University for more than four years and with Grant Thornton LLP as Service Line Leader, Advisory Services NL for more than ten years.

Ms. Whitten has considerable community and professional board experience in Newfoundland and Labrador, including Chair of the Association of Chartered Professional Accountants of NL, Disciplinary Committee; Treasurer of NL Cheerleading Athletics; Chair of Chartered Professional Accountants Education Foundation of NL; Past President of Institute of Internal Auditors, NL Chapter; Treasurer of Holy Spirit High School Council; as well as, District Commissioner, District Treasurer, and Leader for Girl Guides of Canada, Chamberlains District.

Ms. Whitten is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA), and completed her Bachelor of Commerce (Co-operative) (Honours) degree at Memorial University (1995). She received her Chartered Accountant (Honour Roll) designation (1997) and received her Certified Internal Auditor designation (2005).
